Peace And Plenty, Great Exuma April 1967
A woman with long red hair in a bikini walks along a kidney-shaped pool. Around the terrace guests sit in deck chairs and at small tables under thatched parasols. Beyond lies turquoise water with sailboats, one with a string of signal flags on the mast. A flagpole stands at the water's edge, and on the right the pink facade of the hotel.
Guests at the pool of Club Peace And Plenty in Georgetown, on the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas, in April 1967. Slim Aarons photographed from a higher point, between the thatched parasols. These form a dark frame on both sides, so that the bright terrace and the water in the middle seem all the brighter. The walking woman is the only one who keeps the image in motion.

The photographer
Photographing attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places.
George Allen Aarons, born in New York, served as a military photographer in World War II and subsequently transitioned to print journalism. Whereas he previously documented the war, he deliberately chose the opposite subject: the leisure time of the rich and famous, in breathtaking settings.
His most famous photograph, The Kings of Hollywood (1957), encapsulates what he sought in all his portraits: glamour, charisma, and celebrity, captured in a relaxed manner.
Aarons won the trust of the people he photographed, thereby gaining access to some of the most intimate and candid portraits of the twentieth century. In 2007, Getty Images published the book Poolside With Slim Aarons , crowning his legacy.
