About this work
Tiziana, Positano 1984
A woman with wet dark hair stands under an outdoor shower against a wall of gray rock, her hands behind her neck and her eyes closed. She is laughing. Water sprays from her head and shoulders; she wears palm-print bottoms, a thin necklace and bracelets. The sunlight turns her skin warm brown against the cool stone.
Tiziana Audino enjoyed a shower at the Hotel San Pietro in Positano in 1984. The picture is simply built: one figure, one background, an upright frame. What carries it is the contrast in temperature. The rock behind her is gray and rough, she is brown and glistening with water, and the raised arms and closed eyes make it a moment of her own, even though a camera stands in front of her.

The photographer
Photographing attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places.
George Allen Aarons, born in New York, served as a military photographer in World War II and subsequently transitioned to print journalism. Whereas he previously documented the war, he deliberately chose the opposite subject: the leisure time of the rich and famous, in breathtaking settings.
His most famous photograph, The Kings of Hollywood (1957), encapsulates what he sought in all his portraits: glamour, charisma, and celebrity, captured in a relaxed manner.
Aarons won the trust of the people he photographed, thereby gaining access to some of the most intimate and candid portraits of the twentieth century. In 2007, Getty Images published the book Poolside With Slim Aarons , crowning his legacy.
