About this work
Las Brisas, 1978
Under the fronds of palms hanging like a curtain across the top of the frame, the sea glitters against the light. Below, a terrace with white loungers and guests, a man in blue shorts standing, and a pool among the rocks with a few swimmers. In the foreground a table with a white cloth, dishes, glasses and green napkins.
The same coastline near Warren Avis' villa at Las Brisas, January 1978, but now from under the palms. Where the other frame from this day shows the rock and the woman on the mattress, here the table is the foreground: lunch is laid. Aarons shoots straight into the sun, so the sea turns white and the palms black.

The photographer
Photographing attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places.
George Allen Aarons, born in New York, served as a military photographer in World War II and subsequently transitioned to print journalism. Whereas he previously documented the war, he deliberately chose the opposite subject: the leisure time of the rich and famous, in breathtaking settings.
His most famous photograph, The Kings of Hollywood (1957), encapsulates what he sought in all his portraits: glamour, charisma, and celebrity, captured in a relaxed manner.
Aarons won the trust of the people he photographed, thereby gaining access to some of the most intimate and candid portraits of the twentieth century. In 2007, Getty Images published the book Poolside With Slim Aarons , crowning his legacy.
