About this work
Beautiful People, Marbella 1982
At the back of a silver open sports car, a woman and a man pose on either side of the spare wheel. She leans barefoot against the car, one foot on the bumper, in a pink wrap dress with white stripes; he sits on the trunk in a white T-shirt with a print. On the left, bright pink bougainvillea blooms, and branches of green conifers hang above the couple.
Marina Fernandez de Cordova and Prince Hubertus Hohenlohe posed in August 1982 in Marbella, Spain, by a Panther Lima roadster. Aarons frames the car from behind, so the spoked spare wheel lands exactly in the middle, like a round emblem between the two figures. The pink of the dress returns in the flowers beside it, so clothing and garden seem to belong together.

The photographer
Photographing attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places.
George Allen Aarons, born in New York, served as a military photographer in World War II and subsequently transitioned to print journalism. Whereas he previously documented the war, he deliberately chose the opposite subject: the leisure time of the rich and famous, in breathtaking settings.
His most famous photograph, The Kings of Hollywood (1957), encapsulates what he sought in all his portraits: glamour, charisma, and celebrity, captured in a relaxed manner.
Aarons won the trust of the people he photographed, thereby gaining access to some of the most intimate and candid portraits of the twentieth century. In 2007, Getty Images published the book Poolside With Slim Aarons , crowning his legacy.
