About this work
Patrick Lannan And Marcia Pressman, 1968
A dancing couple against a dark background: an older man with grey hair in a red jacket, blue shirt and spotted pocket square laughs broadly, a ring on his hand. The woman in his arms, with long dark hair, wears a silver-grey knitted dress and laughs with him. Behind them a few orange lights, a cane chair and a figure in pink.
The same party given by Jim Kimberly at the Everglades Club in Palm Beach, April 1968, as the frame of the dancing actress. J. Patrick Lannan, financier and art collector, dances with Marcia Pressman. Aarons uses the flash again, and again the room falls away; what remains is red against silver and two laughing faces. It is the most cheerful picture in this group.

The photographer
Photographing attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places.
George Allen Aarons, born in New York, served as a military photographer in World War II and subsequently transitioned to print journalism. Whereas he previously documented the war, he deliberately chose the opposite subject: the leisure time of the rich and famous, in breathtaking settings.
His most famous photograph, The Kings of Hollywood (1957), encapsulates what he sought in all his portraits: glamour, charisma, and celebrity, captured in a relaxed manner.
Aarons won the trust of the people he photographed, thereby gaining access to some of the most intimate and candid portraits of the twentieth century. In 2007, Getty Images published the book Poolside With Slim Aarons , crowning his legacy.
