At the foot of a tall, bare whitewashed wall six men in caps and dark jackets sit on wooden chairs around a small table playing cards; on the right two boys stand watching, one in a striped jumper with his back to us. Above them a balcony with a vase, a window and a doorway. The street is dusty and empty. Black and white.

The boys on the right are learning to watch.
